The Kingfisher

I have spent many happy hours in the Kingfisher, my friend.
And I can vouch for the landlord, he's someone on which you can depend.
There's only one place for fools like us and, when the sun is going down,
I'll meet you in the Kingfisher. They serve the best light ale in town.

High if you want to,
You can get high if you want to.

So if you're partial to a game of chance or a test of skill and wits
I suggest you put your glad rags on, because at nine they start the quiz.
But there's a game that they like to play down in the Kingfisher each night,
If you stay the course with a hand like yours you'll see the darkness turn to light.

High if you want to,
You can get high if you want to.

Win or lose, it doesn't matter.
You'll be fine, as long as you're there.
Try the booze, they say it's out of this world.

Now I'm afraid that the Kingfisher went up in flames some years ago.
No more darts on a Friday night and no more music for the soul.
But whenever you hear a happy crowd, their voices drifting through the air
And when the band are playing far too loud you know the Kingfisher is near.

High if you want to,
You can get high if you want to.
High as a kite, the lantern is burning bright.
